CHESS CLUB
Applications for the 2019-2020 school year are due Friday, Oct. 17th. Mr. Simpson will be hosting Chess Club this year as Ms. Guza has started a new club this year. The club this year will only be offered to 3rd - 5th graders. Only 40 students will be randomly selected for the club. Chess club information and forms have been discussed and made available to all students during LOGIC class. Please turn in applications to either Mr. Simpson or Ms. Guza (in LOGIC or in her mailbox outside her trailer) no later than OCTOBER 17th.
Basic Information:
Leesville Elementary Chess Club is a great way to have fun, learn, and play lots of chess! Membership is free. You just need a positive attitude and a desire to learn.
Goal: Develop increased knowledge, participation, and enjoyment of chess in
an atmosphere of good sportsmanship
Requirements: Students must have someone available to pick them up by 5:15
on meeting days. A second tardy in pick up will result in the
discussion of continued participation in the club.
Behavior Expectations: Students are expected to show PRIDE during our meetings.
Students are expected to be role models for each other in treating our space,
our equipment, and each other respectfully. If students need to be spoken to,
parents will be called or email just so you are aware too. If we have to speak to a
student on more than two occasions about behavior, he/she will be asked to no
longer attend. This is a very high standard that we hold for the students, but a
lot of that has to do with the manner/nature of the game and the fact we have
over 70 members this year.
When and Where: Certain Thursdays of each month from 4:10 – 5:00
in the LES media center starting at around 4:10 and lasting
through 5:00. All students must be picked up by
5:15. We will be using carpool numbers this year to help make the process more efficient.
All members must see an adult in charge with their parent before they leave. We do check each person that picks up as we want to ensure all of our members get home safely and with whom has permission.
